On Friday Oct. 12, during the closing ceremony at Instituto Cervantes in New York, the organizers of The Americas Poetry Festival 2018 distinguished Mexican poet, Ph.D., professor and DACA recipient Rossy Evelin Lima with the Poet of the Year Award bestowed by this multilingual poetry event, now in its fifth edition. Carlos Aguasaco, Yrene Santos and Carlos Velasquez Torres, granted her this distinction “in recognition for her literary achievements and for her poetry that reflects the dreams of her generation and the true spirit of The Americas.” Rossy joins Michelle Yasmine Valladares (India-USA), Jorge Miguel Cocom Pech (Maya Nation), and Tomás Galán (Dominican R.) who were honored with the same award in 2017, 2016 and 2015 respectively. TAPFNY will place a commemorative brick with her name engraved on it at the Poetry Circle located in the garden of the Walt Whitman Birthplace in Huntington, Long Island.
The list of participants this year included the legendary Nuyorican poet Jesús “Papoleto” Meléndez, Colombian-American writer and professor Carolina Chaves-O’Flynn, Inga Pizāne from Latvia, Manuel Iris who is poet laureate of the city of Cincinnati, Peter V. Dugan who is poet laureate of Nassau County (NY), Iranian-American poet and professor Maryam Alikhani, Akram Alkatreb from Syria, Edward van de Vendel from the Netherlands, Jeannette L. Clariond from Mexico, Galician poet Francisco X. Fernández Naval, Ana Guillot from Argentina,Ecuadorian-American Sophia Yánez, Indran Amirthanayagam representing Sri Lanka and the USA, Deidamia Galan from the Dominican Republic, Mexican-American cross-border poet Juan Armando Rojas Joo, and Carlos Satizábal who directs the Master’s degree program in Creative Writing at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, among many others. Professor and translator Jennifer Rathbun gave a lecture on the translation of poetry, and experimental photographer Maribel Longueira exhibited her work and discussed the conceptual framework underlying these creations which were produced in collaboration with poets.
About Rossy Evelin Lima
Rossy Evelin Lima (August 18, 1986 Veracruz, Mexico), holds a PhD in linguistics and is an international award-winning poet. Her work has been published in numerous journals, magazines and anthologies in Spain, Italy, UK, Canada, United States, Mexico, Venezuela, Chile, Colombia and Argentina. Besides the Poet of the Year Award by The Americas Poetry Festival of New York 2018, she has received the Gabriela Mistral Award by the National Hispanic Honor Society, the Premio Internazionale di Poesia Altino in Italy, the International Latino Book Award, the Premio Orgullo Fronterizo Mexicano award by the Institute for Mexicans Abroad, the Premio Internazionale La Finestra Eterea in Italy, among others. She is the president and founder of the Latin American Foundation for the Arts, the founder of the International Latin American Poetry Festival (FeIPoL), as well as the founder of Jade Publishing. In 2015 and was invited to speak at TEDxMcallen to talk about her experience as an immigrant writer in the U.S.

El viernes 12 de octubre, durante la ceremonia de clasura en el Instituto Cervantes de Nueva York, los organizadores de The Americas Poetry Festival 2018 distinguieron a la poeta mexicana, PhD., profesora y beneficiaria de DACA, Rossy Evelin Lima con el premio como Poeta del Año en este festival multilingüe que completa cinco ediciones. Carlos Aguasaco, Yrene Santos & Carlos Velásquez Torres le otorgaron esta distnción “en reconocimiento a sus logros literarios y por su poesía que refleja los sueños de su generación y el verdadero espíritu de las Américas. Rossy se une a Michelle Yasmine Valladares (India-USA), Jorge Miguel Cocom Pech (Nación Maya) y Tomás Galán (República Dominicana) distinguidos con el mismo premio en 2017, 2016 y 2015 respectivamente. TPFNY hará que se ponga un ladrillo conmemorativo con su nombre en el Círculo de la Poesía ubicado en la casa natal del poeta Walt Whitman en Huntington Long Island.

Seminario de escritura creativa en español en Nueva York

Motivados por el éxito obtenido en pasados seminarios y talleres de escritura creativa en español, la petición de numerosos jóvenes escritores y el hecho de ser la casa del Festival Internacional de Poesía de las Américas (poetryny.com), el Festival Internacional de Cine de las Américas (TAFFNY.com), numerosos encuentros y congresos académicos y nuestro compromiso con la lengua de Cervantes, hemos decidido organizar este nuevo seminario con dos de las escritoras más importantes de nuestra América. Nuevos poetas y narradores hispanohablantes, de todo el mundo, podrán reunirse durante dos semanas bajo la tutela de Carmen Boullosa (encargada del seminario en poesía) y Mayra Santos-Febres (a cargo del seminario en narrativa). La sede está ubicada en Downtown Manhattan muy cerca de la Estatua de la Libertad, The World Trade Center y Wall Street, en el lugar histórico donde en 1624 se estableció la ciudad.

Creative Writing Seminar in Spanish January 7-18, 2019
Motivated by the success of previous seminars and workshops on creative writing in Spanish, the numerous petitions we have received from young writers; and the fact that we house The Americas Poetry Festival of New York (poetryny.com), The Americas Film Festival of New York (TAFFNY.com), and numerous academic conferences, we reaffirm our devotion to Cervantes’ language by organizing this new creative writing seminar in Spanish with two of the most important authors in the Americas. New poets and storytellers of the Spanish Speaking world will gather for two weeks under the tutelage of Carmen Boullosa (in charge of the poetry seminar) and Mayra Santos-Febres (in charge of the seminar in storytelling).
