Could you sit down and play the piano
while I watch you and taste a Merlot
of 2009?
Time can drain through the tiny openings
of this wall, that resembles
my skin and breathes
the chords of a melody
destroyed by the train’s sounds .
Time is unavoidable, it slides by
those petroleum lined ceilings.
All night is a hidden highway
a winding tunnel.
Here
the eyes and the hours drown.
If you play, I’ll forget the drips on
the corners.
Last night a moon burst and its
bright pieces filled with sounds
these lost spaces between the carpet and the
wet concrete.
Play the piano…
When you arrived you had a pencil between your fingers
and the desire to fill pages and pages,
and many more white, grid pages.
You wanted a book full of metaphors,
you dreamed your head against the Brooklyn Bridge
and you loved a vision of Crane through the glass.
A heartbeat intoxicating your memory,
discerning the intimate relationship between your steps
and the phases of the moon,
or the faded eyes of some woman
hidden behind her veil made curtains.
That desire filled with wild nights
to silence everything that had lost your
flavor,
the smell of your sentences or your verbs…
But let’s not talk about that anymore,
just play it,
play the piano and that its music
licks the footprints of Lorca in Morningside Heights,
between the red bricks of his gypsy’s dreams
and tenderly damped by the
sleepers drool.
Kiss the finger that feeds on the hybrid
tulips
and remember me.
My body also bleeds and suffers,
but my mouth imitates the whisper
of the ragged pigeons
to silence the skin-stained brick
Play it…
You have to close your eyes,
you have to close your mouth:
Close the mouths
or fill them with black snow,
to leave their traces on the
streets or mute
at once for
“Sleep city of limpid attics, Sleep. A monster beats, beats and twists its serpent body to the Hudson.”
